It is our great pleasure and honor to invite you to participate in the workshop and tutorial entitled “Introducing Radio Universe through the Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI): Lecture on Radio Astronomy and Tutorial for VLBI Data Reduction“ which will be held on 24 – 26 February 2020 in Bandung, Indonesia. The venue is in the campus of Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Bandung, West Java, Indonesia.

VLBI is a growing activity and facility with a variety of promising science objectives. One of the VLBI networks in the world is the East-Asian VLBI Network (EAVN), consisting of a number of radio telescopes in Japan, Korea, and China. It is expected that this network will include the region of South East Asia, such as Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia in the near future. Therefore, the aim of this workshop and tutorial is giving a basic knowledge on radio astronomy and basic skills on its data reduction. The lectures will cover the principles of VLBI techniques and its data reduction and scientific studies enabled by radio astronomy and, in particular, with VLBI. There will be hands-on sessions of the VLBI data reduction. An excursion to Indosat Ooredoo Jatiluhur Earth Station and discussion on future cooperation are also part of activities. A cooperation between ITB and Indosat Ooredoo to convert a decommissioned 32 m dish, previously used for telecommunication, into a radio telescope is currently undertaken.

This tutorial and workshop are jointly organized by Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ), National Astronomy Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT), Yamaguchi University, Ibaraki University (Japan), and Indosat Ooredoo.
