Doctoral Program in Astronomy

The Doctoral Program in Astronomy is an advanced academic program that has received an “A” accreditation from the National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education (BAN-PT), valid until 28 May 2024.

At the core of this program is independent research in astrophysics or related disciplines, conducted under the supervision of the ITB Astronomy Research Group. The final dissertation must represent original research and is expected to make a significant contribution to the field.

Program Structure

The research process in the Doctoral Program begins with a qualification examination, which assesses the student’s mastery of relevant knowledge and their ability to design a detailed and structured research proposal. Upon passing this exam, the student attains the status of doctoral candidate.

Doctoral candidates carry out their research under the guidance of a promotor and co-promotor, and their progress is regularly reviewed through seminars and progress reports. At the end of the research phase, candidates are required to publish their scientific findings in reputable journals and defend their dissertation in a formal doctoral session.

Graduate Prospects

Graduates of the Doctoral Program in Astronomy possess the expertise to pursue careers as university lecturers and researchers at scientific institutions. Beyond these roles, they are also positioned to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of astronomy through scientific publications and collaborative research projects.
